we are pleased to announce that the speaker for the NUKSG Leeds meeting on 18 January 2010 is David Horn.
Start time : 18.30
David has a career spanning 25 years with the last 7 being focused on IT Security with a particular emphasis on computer forensics. In 2002 David was instrumental in introducing EnCase Forensic software to the UK and making it a commercially available product. David has more recently contributed to two separate forensic qualifications for universities and often visits them to speak to students.
Presentation: “You only get one chance…” You suspect computer misuse within the workplace – what do you do next? When problems happen, it’s all too easy to try and solve them yourself. You may be inclined to ask your IT team to commence an investigation to prove that an incident has occurred; when is occurred and who is responsible. If you are collating evidence, you have only one chance to get it right and it’s important not to squander it. Once that chance has gone, there is no going back as you may well have lost evidential integrity and continuity. This presentation will guide you through the do’s and don’ts and ultimately the best way of using your one chance.

It is hard to believe that its seven years since the idea for NUKSG was first discussed. For those that don’t know, Myself and Mike Porter were at the ISF congress in Prague having dinner with John Coley. As always the wine/beer was flowing, so talk was cheap.. We discussed the lack of networking opportunties for the northern based security community and as a result said we’d “sort it”. With the help of ISC2 the first meeting was held in Leeds, with a turn out of about 20 individuals known to be CISSP’s or personal contacts. From that time we have seen the creation of the NUKSG Manchester chapter, which now seems to have become established. At last count we have 280+ people subscribing to the list, alongside our Linkedin group with 205+ .
Creating NUKSG has been a challenge. We’ve learnt a lot, drank/eaten plenty (thanks to our sponsors) and more importantly proven there is a strong information security presence north of the capital.
Thanks to everyone who has helped. It been a pleasure working with you!
Cheers
Michael Brown.
